Coastal

About these designs.

Coastal environments are all about appreciating and living more closely with nature and natural materials such as brick have an inherent ability to reflect their natural setting. Designed for a coastal setting, these homes will weather cleanly in coastal conditions and last indefinitely. The mass and strength of the brick will also retain the integrity of the structure and keeps the residents safe in the environmental extremes of Australia’s coastal areas.

Coastal buildings suffer sustained external cooling loads through “wind chill” and radiate this internally. A high mass building such as a brick home regulates the extremes and in winter, if insulated, will reduce the long term cooling effects. It also retains internal heat and radiates out at night. In summer a high mass building with good ventilation absorbs the excess heat and flushes the rest. In both seasons high mass has advantages over low mass in “extreme” environments.
